Was ist die Message? Wer keine vier Wochen Zeit für’s Hin- und Zurücksegeln und keinen Sponsor für das entsprechende Boot hat, der darf niemals nach New York? Und die Familie, die ´92 vor dem Krieg am Balkan aus Sarajewo geflohen ist und jetzt in Chicago lebt – darf die ihre Verwandten in Bosnien nie mehr besuchen, weil man in den USA überhaupt nur 2 Wochen frei nehmen kann im Jahr. Wenn überhaupt?
Ist das die Botschaft? Wird das dem Einsatz für’s Klima gut tun?
Nun ist Greta Thunberg natürlich nicht Jedefrau. Sie ist eine Botschafterin und also solche muss sie Zeichen setzen, schon klar. Und ja, es ist wichtig, dass sie die Funken auch in Übersee zündet.
Andererseits: wir bräuchten sie auch immer noch hier in Europa. Wenn in Deutschland die parlamentarische Sommerpause endet und die Große Koalition über ihre Zukunft entscheidet. Wenn in Österreich die Neuwahlen sind. Wenn die neue EU-Kommission ihre Arbeit aufnimmt und ihr Programm aufstellt…. während doch in den USA die Wahlen erst in anderthalb Jahren sind.
Man sieht, auch für (Klima)-Heldinnen ist es nicht leicht, immer das Richtige zu tun. So viel zu bedenken.
Auf jeden Fall erst mal: „Schiff ahoi Greta!“

Greta „Friday4Future“ Thunberg sails to America. That’s cool. Effective in the media. A great sign!
Is it? What is the message? If you don’t have four weeks to sail back and forth and don’t have a sponsor for the boat, you’re never allowed to go to New York? And the family, who fled from Sarajevo in ´92 because of the war in the Balkans and now lives in Chicago, is never allowed to visit their relatives in Bosnia again, because in the USA you can only take 2 weeks off a year. If at all? Certainly not long enough to sail across the Ocean!
Is that the message? Will this be good for the climate?
Now Greta Thunberg is of course not „Jedefrau“. She is an ambassador and so she has to set such signs, of course. And yes, it is important that she also ignites the sparks overseas.
On the other hand, we still need her here in Europe. When the parliamentary summer break ends in Germany and the governing coalition decides on its future. When the Austrians have their re-elections. When the new EU Commission starts its work and draws up its programme… whereas in the US the elections are not due for another year and a half.
As you can see, even for (climate) heroines it is not easy to always do the right thing. So much to think about.
In any case first of all, „Schiff ahoi Greta!“
